On 4/09/08 we contacted Jerald at ADT Security Services for a in home alarm system and services. on 4/11/08 John Vogel of Defender Direct came to our home representing ADT and installed 1 key pad, 1 battery back up, 1 door sensor and 1 motion detector (all wireless). This took him 6 hours on a 1960 single wide mobile home. At the end of the installation he had my companion Earl sign all the documentation. They told us after they had a canceled check for payment that we MAY need a permit so the police or fire would respond to ADT’s calls. When we asked where do we get the permit the answer was call the local police. While investigating we found that there is an application process to the permit. So I called Defender Direct to see if the contract cancellation process could be extended for the period needed for the permit process. I was told by Marcus of Defender Direct that they never deny a permit and I was worrying to much. He became very rude and upset me a great deal and my companion Earl took the phone and spoke with Marcus. At that point Marcus called me all kinds of profane names to my Companion. When my Companion asked to speak to his supervisor Marcus told Earl that he was the “OWNER” of Defender Direct. We decided to cancel the contract as we did not want to pay for services for the next 3 years that we MAY NOT be able to use the alarm. We canceled directly with ADT on 4/14/08 using their cancellation forms via FAX. While canceling we found that this was considered a MONITORED ACCOUNT. And there was little that ADT was willing to do for us the consumer. Defender Direct is still billing us even though ADT has our cancellation. I then contacted Warren Knight of Dealer Esculations (a dept. of ADT) on 4/14/08 leaving a message on his voice mail. No response was made to me from Mr. Knight so on 5/15 I called again and Mr Knight a sured me that he would contact me on 5/16 with the status of the cancellation with Defender Direct. As of this date 5/20/08 Mr Knight has not contacted either of us. Defender Direct has withdrawn the following amount from my bank account on 4/11 $99.00 for installation on approx 4/25/08 $73.32 then on 5/15/08 $43.99. I have had to block my checking account so they do not take any more money from me. I just want my money back and their system out of our home. They do not have good customer relations.

I have had my system for 30 days and have nothing but a nightmare from the Defender Direct local management and installer. My husband had to reconfigure the entire system so we were able to arm it without the alarm going off when we left our home. Our remotes would not arm away either, again my husband had to reconfigure.

They are a terrible company and I want out of the contract barely 30 days old. ADT will not help me nor Defender Direct. I will do whatever I need to do so people are not service by this company.
